Camay Soap Bars are manufactured by Procter And Gamble.

History of Camay Soap

Camay first began in 1924, by manufacturing company Procter & Gamble. At the time, P&G's research department was studying consumer trends, and the growing demand was for perfumed soap. In response to consumer demand, Camay Soap was introduced in 1926. Camay was portrayed as a luxurious soap that provided women the ultimate feminine glamour. "Camay" was coined from the French word, "camee," which means cameo, the jewel.

Camay Soap became extremely popular through a great deal of advertising. Camay print advertisements date all the way back to the 1930's. One set of advertisements featured real-life brides, called the "Camay Brides." The ad, featuring brides in their wedding gowns, suggested that using Camay Soap made women "lovelier every day."

Camay Soap became a global success for Procter & Gamble, selling in more than 60 countries throughout the world. Camay Soap began selling in the United States in 1926, in the United Kingdom in 1958 and was the first brand launched by Procter & Gamble to reach Egypt in 1986.
